Two losses in a row-row Print E-mail

The Twins lost their second game in a row.  I sadly wasn't watching live but DVR did come in handy on this one for me.  If I hadn't caught the first inning and maybe the fourth inning there really wouldn't be much to talk about.  The Twins have had a down week.  Its probably not the last down week of the year.  A three game skid followed by their "stopper" Livan that was more a luck of the draw stop/thank you to MLB biggest moron Carl Crawford...

We all remember Crawfords base-running gaff from last year.  On Wednesday (he did almost hit for the cycle) Crawford made a catch in foul territory that led to the game winning run and then struck out to end the game.  For having crushed all game at the plate Joe Nathan really had Crawford's number. That was the week's high spot.  Last night Liriano had a 1-2-3 first inning and from there he threw less then 50% of his pitches for strikes.  On the night he threw 47 strikes to 41 balls but less the first inning and he found the strike zone less then a blink squirel finds a nut.  I know we can't really expect much from him this his first year back from injury-it probably doesn't make a ton of sense to have him in the major league line-up.  Wouldn't his confidence be best served at the AAA or AA level?  Down there he'd have the time to work on his fastball, gain the confidence behind his slider and perfect his other pitches.  Liriano is going to have to work a change-up and a cut fastball into his arsenal, he just isn't going to be able to snap off sliders and stay in one piece.  Maybe by mid-summer he'll have enough confidence to pitch his game.

The Twins have been sawed off all week long.  Their bats are cold right now.  They are averaging 3.9 runs a game but they've come in spurts.  Lamb needs to find his swing or they are going to have to look else where.  Buscher is still hitting really well down at AAA.  If Lamb doesn't come around within the next few weeks I think the Twins should start looking at the future instead of just dredging up worthless veterans.  Lamb's defensive isn't good enough to hit like Punto.  I'm sure at his price range someone would want him for a bucket of rusty bolts come July.

I'm glad that Tolbert is performing, because I think he's got more upside them Everett and asuredly more then Punto.  Punto sucks, face it.
