Let's see here we had three big time sporting events going on last night. The Wolves were taking on the Hornets. The Twins threw down with the Chi-Sox. The Wild and the Avalanche started their playoff series. Thankfully the start times were somewhat staggered but there was a little while there with three games going all at once. As fate would have it the Twins and Wolves games were pretty much over by the start of the Wild game, at least as far as competitiveness. Here are a few quick thoughts...
Let's start with the big winners of the night the Minnesota Timberwolves. Sure the Wolves lost by 32 but the freaking Knicks won. That's right the Knicks can't do anything right. The Wolves pulled off a few wins lately that are more then likely going to push us into the third worst record in the NBA instead of the second worst record. One more loss and we've got that third worst record locked down tight. I'm calling for tanking here. The Heat have the worst record top spot locked down. Now if the Wolves lose out maybe just maybe the Sonics pull off one win. Then the Wolves would fall into the second worst record in the league. Seeing as the the team with the worst record has never won the lottery. Being in the two hole means worst possible scenario you are picking fifth. Not that I see five sure-fire picks in this draft. If we were the fifth worst team we could plausibly fall to the eighth pick. In that territory the fear has to be O.J. "I should have staying in school past my freshmen year" Mayo. Once the draft order is locked down and once we have a little better idea of what underclassmen will be entering the draft I'm sure I'll be posting more NBA draft thoughts. The Twins started hitting on all cylinders. Kubel had one heck of a nice night. In an odd back to back games with grand-slams the Twins avenged the previous loss to the White Sox. Kubel has been hitting when Gardy gives him plate appearances, so I think its probably about time he sees more of the dish. I know that Cuddy is down and out for a while but I'm getting tired of seeing Monroe taking Kubel's spot. I think that Monroe and Span should be switching back and forth, this really shouldn't be a three-way deal. Play Kubel each and every day and lets just see what Jason can do. Past that I wasn't really feeling this game. I dug the fact that Baker was just rearing back and chucking the ball. I'm not that impressed with five innings and three dingers. I think there is something to be said about attacking the opposing hitters. There is also something to be said about a quality start. Bass looked nice and I was glad to see him get some solid work in. Go-Go was exciting last night too. I love watching playoff hockey. Having our team in the playoffs is just that much better. I know we lost the first game of a best of seven. I also know that in the NHL a playoff series goes 2 at home, 2 on the road, 1 at home, 1 on the road and then finally 1 at home. We need to win Friday night. Then we need a split in Denver. To last nights game. We were better. We out played them for 75% or more of the game. I don't think we came out flat-Colorado just came out quick and hot. Really the tale of this series is going to come down to the Wild's blue line. We are so thin, I think we need to bring someone up from Houston. Hill is slow and probably should just do more steriods-as long as they make him quicker...I mean its not like the NHL will pull their head out of their ass and be doing drug testing right now. I'd like to see Gabby get more chances with Mikko on his line but that's just me. I'm totally looking forward to breaking this one dowm more thoroughly tomorrow and then watching the game Friday night.
