Game one of the year is in the books and it was quite an impressive effort. The Twins played their typical Twins baseball. Good starting pitching, timely hitting, great defense, and a solid bullpen.
I was very excited to see how some of our new guys would play. In fact they exceeded my expectations(at least for one night). Gomez and Young each had had two hits and three stolen bases between them. Old stanbys Mauer and Cuddyer had RBIS to knock in Gomez and Young. Livan Hernandez pitched a good game. He went deep into the game and only allowed two runs. He then handed it off to a terrific bullpen. Pat Neshek and Joe Nathan slammed the door shut on any attempts by the Angels to come back.
All in all I was impressed. It is only one game though. I suspect some of our young pitchers will struggle a little bit throughtout the year. Also, I expect some struggles from Gomez at some point. He shows a little immaturity here and there. I am not that worried about Delmon Young in this aspect. So anyway I see good things for the Twins. There will be growing pains this year but in the long term we will better off. Our trades this offseason I think will work out. The future is so bright for the Twins they are going to need wear shades.
