Nathan signs contract with the Twins Print E-mail

Joe Nathan signs a 4 year $47 million deal with the Minnesota Twins.

Joe Nathan and the Twins finally closed talks with the signing of a $11.25 million per year for 4 years with options. The deal had been hinted at for a the last few days, with no real details emerging until today.  (According to La Velle E Neal III t he extension essentially tears up this years roughly $6 million deal and replaces it with $11.25 million dollar per year for the next four years.)

I am excited at the prospect of Nathan being around for another few years. I feel this means that the Twins are not necessarily counting this season out. With the other big moves in the off season, and the seemingly younger and younger roster, they definitely could have looked to future seasons to do well. With Nathan around, that means the Twins are expecting to be in need of a closer in later innings of games this season.
