The Wild move into first in the Northwest for the night. They beat Colorado 3-1, the third being an empty netter. It was a great game and I'm glad I was able to watch it in HD, thank you VS....
The first opened up with a playoff atmosphere. Guys were playing like a loss sent them home for the summer. Who knows this game just might have. When Rolston fed Burns to light the lamp in the first it was total sweetness. I had the speakers turned up to near max and I swear I could feel the stands at the old Met shaking. Minnesota might be the state of hockey but there are too many times when our home fans don't react the way I'd expect, tonight was not one of those lack-luster nights. We had plenty to cheer about though. Rolstons' dippidy-do to Burns, Mikko was somewhere in the neighborhood of 15 for 18 on faceoffs, Backstrom saw 30 shots and turned 29 of them away, Veilleux has been on fire for the past week and change, Sheppard got an assist, Parrish didn't look like a ghost (still didn't look great), and Branko scored. We've got two more games with the Avs before the season wraps up, but winning this game puts us on a two game winning streak and a five game undefeated in regulation streak. The Wild's got some serious games in the coming week but if they can keep their current momentium together things are on the up. Tonight the Avs looked old in comparision to the Wild, which the y are, and the Wild were able to bring a physical game to them. It didn't hurt that the Boogey-man was back after a 21 game run on the injury list. Boogaard saw around five shifts and couldn't have had much more then two minutes on the ice but he had at least one nice hit.
Sure we've still got Simon on the team but things seem to be looking up for the time being. With eight games to play the Wild really can't look to miss out on more then two-three games. This has been great to watch and I'm looking forward to Wednesday nights tild with the Sharks.
