Cuddy takes a line drive off the foot from a somewhat washed-up Twins prospect in Garret Jones. Its too bad for Cuddy but it helps the Twins answer the question of what do we do with the outfield when Cuddy comes back... Now, that the Twins have a fairly decent idea of who we'll have for the stretch run and instead of asking who will we play we need to start asking ourselves can this configuration pull it off. The infield is still in a bit of flux due to Alexi's injured thumb and Everett's inability to play major league baseball anymore. Punto is currently our best fielder at 3rd, SS, and 2nd. Everett can't really make throws from the hole at SS so it makes a bit of sense for him to try to move to 2nd, but its something he's never done before. Personally I think its Everett's only chance at staying in the bigs over the next few years. Harris has stone feet, okay hands but really just doesn't seem able to move his feet at all. Buesher seems like he can play 3rd just fine but Harris has had a much more lively bat as of late so he's seeing more time at 3rd as of late. Right now the Twins need to find a rotation of infielders that give them professional at-bats with solid Twins defense. I think Punto at SS if Everett can cover 2nd and then rotate the hot bat at 3rd. The outfield should be Young, Gomez, Span, barring any more injuries from herein. I really think Gomez finding it within himself to just relax and let the game come to him along with Young finding a little more of a power stroke is what will decide if the Twins can pull off the central this summer. The bull-pen still needs a fresh arm or two but it just looks like it isn't going to happen so a few games where the Twins score a lot of runs will be really nice to help the strain on the bull-pen down the stretch. Right now I see the Twins needing a week or two where we don't have to rely on the pen at all. Time will tell if the back-end of the pen will hold-up through-out the rest of the season but I think the rotation just needs to keep chugging along like it has been all season long. |
