It's been a bit since I posted but have been laid up for a while and plus working a lot. But I felt it necessary to post a little about the Twins moves this past week.
So just like every year the Twins talk and talk to a lot of teams about doing a trade. Do they do it? No. That's ok though. This is one year where no moves was the right move. There were discussions about bringing in anyone from Brian Roberts, to Adrian Beltre, or Eddie Guardado.
However, they didn't make those the trades. They stood pat with what they have. The Orioles and Mariners were seeking too much. Read: they wanted our young pitchers. Or Denard Span. Giving them would have been a mistake. Not one of them was expendable. We hold rights to these guys for years and we need to use them before we again have to break up the team. This could be potentially a dynamite staff for the next 3-4 years. By then we have the new ballpark and more revenue so we might be able to hold onto most of them. The big move though was waiving Monroe and Livan. ANother great move. Livan had a deceptively good record. He was receiving the best run support in the league which masked his high ERA. Monroe was a dud. He was batting barely over .200 with not nearly the power we thought he had. Franchise was called up to take Livan's spot. I am excited. Hopefully he works out. Randy Ruiz is the replacement for Monroe. He is a stopgap until next year is my guess. Overall, great moves by the Twins. |
