The Twins put a nice bit of Kung-Fu on the Pale-Hose this week. Now the trading deadline has passed and what do we get? We unload a pitcher that cost us roughly a half of a million dollars per win and a right handed bat that couldn't seem to hit lefties. I can feel releasing... Livan cause he's been sucking. But I'm not sure I fully understand Monroe. Its not like he was really giving us that much but what does Randy Ruiz give us? Then I looked over Monroe's numbers again, here they are. It looks like that one-handed swing of his hasn't been connecting nearly as much as I thought it had been. Maybe Randy Ruiz, here is his bio, can give us a little something more then good old one hander. Heck at-least Ruiz is bad-ass enough to rock a pink uni/bat combination. Really what these moves say to me is that even though we've got a new GM the Twins are still playing the same old game. It frustrates the hell out of me but it seems to be working at least since 2002. Now, what will the Twins do? Right now the Twins have a starting rotation with an average age well under 30. We've got a few more bullets down at AAA but all of our starters look good right now. I'm not writing this season off but I just can't see us contending honestly with the Angels or Cubs for a World Series. I'm glad that we didn't sell the farm to try to make a push this off-season but I just wonder what we'll do this next off-season. I think we need to solve 3rd base, SS, figure out how to work the outfield between Young, Gomez, Span and Cuddy, attend to the DH position or are we to now assume its Kubel's full-time?, we need to address Bass & Bonser and then sort our who is our 6th, 7th, and 8th inning bullpen guys going down the line. With the bullpen issue I feel somewhat confident in our current personnel, especially if Pat N can come back and regain his effectiveness. From there the Twins are contenders at 1st, 2nd, C, all of our outfielders at-least look like they are major league material, our starters aren't going to blow people away (with the possible exception of Liriano) but they are solid starters and how many teams can claim that top to bottom. With a few pieces and a little tinkering the Twins could have a very solid team for the next four to five seasons. I just don't think the Twins will be moved to make any big money deals or moves till the new ball park opens. Till then Randy Ruiz will have to do as our big bat acquisition. |
