Being from Minnesota it is almost culturally necessary for me to be a hockey fan. Since the Wild started playing back in 2000 I have been a huge supporter. I knew there would be tough years since it was a startup franchise... ...However, I always figured they were building towards some sort of crescendo and would stay there. That they would have the talent developed through the draft and some free agents signings. They have done the draft with Gabby, Burns, and Schultz etc. They signed Brian Rolston and Niklas Backstrom to deals. Doug Riseborough did a good job with those things. Where he fails as a general manager is his unwillingness to gamble. The Wild have a genuine chance to make a great run in the playoffs this year. However, to put them over the top I really feel that they needed to get a scoring center for the first line. The perfect example of a player like that is Marian Hossa. I truly believe he is the type of player that could have put us over the top. Instead Riseborough is so gun shy about trading away any young talent that he wouldn’t pull the trigger. Now looking at what Pittsburgh gave up to get him it might have been difficult to get Hossa. But who cares?! Pull the trigger. Give up James Sheppard, a Kim Johnsson and another player along with a couple picks to get him. He is that good. It is a disappointment for me to see the Wild do this to themselves. Our big trade deadline deal was to get Chris Simon. That is an amazing deal. We get a 36 year old thug who can’t score. Perfect. I won’t be watching many Wild games the rest of the year. I am moving on. Until they get some guts, I don’t see them going anywhere.
