This week has been all over the place for MN sports. Half-court shots for overtime. Lots of goals. Then come Sunday its Vikings football time. Let’s get things going then. Wild This is going to be the biggest deal of the week. Clutterbuck gets a cheap shot by Gonchar. Here’s the link. Also, Gonchar wasn’t suspended. To add fuel to this fire Andrew Ebbet was slewfooted last night, no video yet. The week really started with the Wild’s 6-5 overtime shoot-out victory. Monday’s game against the Penguins was physical and there were again a ton of goals. All in all we beat Crosby 4-3. Then Wednesday we took it too the Canucks. 5-2 on the first night of a back t0 back. Here is John Scott’s fight too just cause it was bad-ass. Thursday could be considered a let-down but only really in the win-loss column. Harding played a great game and the Wild were out shot but stayed in the game and had some great chances in the closing minutes to tie the game back up but they just ran into a hot goalie last night. Outside of the loss as mentioned before Andrew Ebbet was lost for the [...]

Something new. Once a week some quick thoughts on the week and why not on Wednesday. Call it a hump-day gift. Check it out! Twins Denard Span moves to lead-off spot. Gomez to the nine hole. I think its probably time to give Gomez a little protection and let him work on his offensive game a little bit. I think its still the same idea of having a bunch of fast guys one after the other. Now, we’ve got Span-Alexi-Baby Jesus-Former MVP and if Span can keep his on-base percentage up that’s just that many more RBI’s for the heavy hitters. Liriano is cruising AAA. His velocity might not be back to where it was, but it might never be back. From the box scores it looks like Liriano is becoming more of a pitcher and less of a super-human freak. I think its time to bring him up and it might not be a bad idea to keep Livan around to help mentor him a little. Third-base isn’t a true open competition right now but who should be have there everyday? Brian B has started to make the position his but if we are truly in a pennant race [...]

The second installment of the Wednesday quick hitters… Twins Monday’s Game by Slowey saved his spot in the rotation. Wednesday’s game by Livan killed his. Liriano needs to be brought up now. Alexi’s hand injury is trouble-some. Mainly because the middle infield was looking really good the last few weeks. Even with all of the moves at SS and 3rd. We need to add a 2nd basemen…will we do it via trade?…only time will tell. Vikes Its preseaon I’m not getting to excited about what’s coming out of Mankato. Thursday night’s practice in River Falls should show a little something more, but how many vets will even show up? Let’s just hope Brett doesn’t end up here. I’m not totally in love with Jackson but I just want all of the BS in Green Bay to keep on rolling. Wolves The roster is shaping up. Gomez is locked in with a club friendly five year deal. We’ve got enough players right now, it’ll be interesting to see if the Wolves make another deal before the season starts. Once the two month no trade peirod has passed on the guys involved in the Love trade we might see another deal. I [...]

Here is the third installment of the quick hitters… Twins: Right now the Twins are sort of in a weird place. They made a great move last week by sending Livan packing and bringing up Liriano. They weren’t able to make any moves to add extra arms to the pen. Even though they added a better starter they might be at a net loss because Livan was/is an innings eater and Liriano might not eat as many innings. Liriano should give the Twins a better shot at winning the games he starts. I still think it was a good move. Now, we’ll see if we’ve got anything worth while on the farm to aid our ailing pen. Monroe and his one arm swing are gone. Along with his 8 homers and .202 average. In his place, the long-time minor leaguer Randy Ruiz. The thought is when Cuddy is healthy Ruiz is back in AAA. Alexi is probably done for the summer so that means we might have to see Adam Everett playing in the field more then we’d like. Watching him ply his craft at SS is troublesome and watching him at 2nd isn’t much better. At least you don’t [...]

Let’s see here we had three big time sporting events going on last night. The Wolves were taking on the Hornets. The Twins threw down with the Chi-Sox. The Wild and the Avalanche started their playoff series. Thankfully the start times were somewhat staggered but there was a little while there with three games going all at once. As fate would have it the Twins and Wolves games were pretty much over by the start of the Wild game, at least as far as competitiveness. Here are a few quick thoughts… Let’s start with the big winners of the night the Minnesota Timberwolves. Sure the Wolves lost by 32 but the freaking Knicks won. That’s right the Knicks can’t do anything right. The Wolves pulled off a few wins lately that are more then likely going to push us into the third worst record in the NBA instead of the second worst record. One more loss and we’ve got that third worst record locked down tight. I’m calling for tanking here. The Heat have the worst record top spot locked down. Now if the Wolves lose out maybe just maybe the Sonics pull off one win. Then the Wolves would [...]

Its Wednesday here in the beautiful state of MN. We’ve got big things on the horizon for tomorrow. Right now the Twins are trying to close in on the Chi-Sox. Here are a few thoughts on it all… The Twins are in the top of the fifth. Perkins gave up a ton of everything early. He just didn’t look great. The defense wasn’t helping him that much but that didn’t seem to matter the Padres were just finding room in the field. The Padres ran out to a 3-0 lead. Then back came the Twins in manufacturing type fashion with Perkins bunting Buescher to second, Gomez getting hit by a pitch, Alexi coming up with a run scoring single, followed by Mauer’s two RBI double. Just like that the Twins were back in the game. I was totally stoked. Then Maddux and Perkins just sort of took the life out of the game over the next half an hour which ended up being an inning and a half. Harris came through with a two run double in the fourth, which was sort of a bomb I couldn’t really tell because this entire park is outrageously huge. Now the Twins are [...]
