Does this mean that the NFL’s contract with DirectTV is dead? Or what about the NFL Network in general? This is going to be interesting to sort out completely. I’m sure that there are going to be appeals but right now why would a provider like ComCast purchase exclusive rights? What about all of the money that sports leagues had brought in with their exclusive rights contracts? Blog this on Blogger Digg this!
It has become a familiar story as of late. The Supersonics are just the latest example of a city being held hostage by a team that wants a new stadiium. Throughout every major sport this has been true. Do teams have the right to do this? I don’t believe they do but yet it still happens. Here is just a small list of teams that have moved because of stadium issues in their old cities: Saint Louis Rams-Los Angeles New Orleans Hornets-Charlotte Dallas Stars-Minnesota North Stars Colorado Avalance-Quebec Avalanche Oakland Raiders-Los Angeles Seattle Supersonics-Oklahoma City….. Those are just a few. There are a myriad of other examples. It becomes disheartening to watch teams leave cities that have loved them. Seattle is going to lose their basketball team. They have a loyal fan base. They had a high draft pick coming up. But their ownership only sees dollar signs. Theer are not enough luxury boxes. Clay Bennett wants a new arena with more luxury boxes so he can take a larger cut of the profits. It is sad that they are moving. How does this relate to Minnesota? The Minnesota Vikings’ lease in the metrodome is up in 2011. They have [...]

Every once in a while magazines, tv shows, and websites will come out with various top lists. For me it was time to rank the greatest 5 athletes to have played for a Minnesota Professional sports team. With that I had to eliminate several great athletes right off the bat. Among them are Dave Winfield, Mike Modano, and Paul Molitor. Yes, all three played for a Minnesota. But they have or had played for another team for the bulk of their careers. My list will include only players that played more than half their career in Minnesota. Here is my top five in no partiuclar order. 1.Randy Moss-I hate to say it but yes he is one of our greatest athletes. Played seven seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. Was the 21st pick of the first round in 1998. Set the rookie record with 17 touchdown catches in helping the Vkings set the record for most points scored by a team in NFL history. Made the pro bowl 5 times in his 7 seasons with the Vikings. Later traded to the Raiders for Napoloeon Harris, a first round pick and a seventh round pick. Now plays for the New England Patriots.
Who are the top ten worst pro sport franchises? Fox sports came up with the list. Fox sports came up with a list of the worst pro sport franchises currently in operation. Who rounds out the top ten? How does Minnesota fare on the list? Well, bad news, the Twins are number seven on the list. Though can we blame them? The Twinkies seem to let the expensive guys go in exhange for prospects and young (read: cheap) talent, usually not amounting to much continuity between seasons. So on that note, lets here it for Gomez one more time! Who needs Johan anyway. The rest of the list: 10. LA Clippers 9. Vancouver/Memphis Grizzlies 8. Atlanta Hawks 7. Twinkies 6. Boston Bruins 5. Detroit Lions 4. Tampa Bay Devil Rays…I mean, “Rays” 3. Arizona Cardinals 2. Kansas City Royals 1. Pittsburg Pirates Blog this on Blogger Digg this!
My take on who I think are the top five professional athletes that played a majority of their careers in Minnesota. 1. Kirby Pucket. I don’t know a person who doesn’t know who I am talking about when I mention his name. 2. Kevin Garnet I’ll always think of him as a T-wolf. 3. Johan Santana Won 2 Cy Young awards, and is now getting real paid! 4. Marian Gaborik I was too young to remember much of the North Stars, so this is who I think of as a Minnesota hockey player. Well, I think I’ll just pick four. Turns out I went with my favorite players, which often are the most well known. Oh well. a smith Blog this on Blogger Digg this!
