We all know the Twins lost to the Yankees in the first round of the playoffs this past fall. Target Field was a huge success this past season. Danny Valencia was a huge success. Francisco Liriano was a huge success and finally seems to have regained his “stuff” following Tommy-John surgery. Cuddy played well at 1st in Morneau’s stead but that is of course at the expense of losing a perennial potential MVP. Now, its time to start drawing up the plan for next season. The infield needs a make-over, and this isn’t new news for the Twins. Short-stop has been a revolving door since Jason Bartlet was traded too the Rays. Before that when was the last time the Twins had a competent starting short-stop? The Twins haven’t had any luck or ability to draft the position. Not that the Twins haven’t drafted short-stops its just that none of them are playing short-stop at the major league level. The 2010 season saw Orlando Hudson paired with J.J. Hardy at 2nd and short-stop. J.J. Hardy is arbitration eligible, while Hudson is a FA this off-season. At first the hope is that Justin Morneau is able to make a full recovery from the concussion he sustained [...]

The Twins are taking on the Yankees again, and losing the first game of the ALDS at home. What’s new there? Jesse Crain hanging a slider and Mark Teixeira depositing it just inside the right foul pole for a 6-4 lead that the Yankees bullpen made hold-up. Outside of the fact it took for freaking ever it was a pretty good game and I was really happy with the Twins defense. The Wild are taking on the Canes in Finland. They jumped on them early, however its been all Canes so far into the 2nd period. Its been sloppy on both sides. The Canes have let the Wild own the crease on both ends of the ice. The Wild don’t look a lot faster then they did last year, which I contend was our biggest weakness. Backs looks better then he did last year early but he’s still not the steel curtain he was a few years ago. Madden and Cullen don’t lose face-offs and that’s nice, but they do seem to have cement skates. Can’t say I’ve heard Hav’ name called much today until he missed on that great 1-1 against Cam Ward but thankfully Cullen was there to [...]

IPODs rock, just to get that out of the way. Along those lines the Twins defense is going to be pretty aight this season. Punto on third taint horrible as long as he hits above the Mendoza line. Harby at short has promise. The O-Dogg at second looks tight. Span in center makes us wicked phatty in the outfield. Cuddy does what he can and he limits other team’s running games with his cannon for an arm. Delmon is an adventure in left but he seems to be trending up. The M & M Boys are about as good as they get. Could this team limit it to under 20 errors for the season? I’m excited to watch out defense especially with the pressure our offense can put on other team’s. Digg this! Share this on Facebook Post this to MySpace Tweet This!
Word play time. Joe Mauer Painfully rich, super rich, mad-rich, insanely rich, side burns, baby Jesus, Bill Gates rich, pre-housing bubble rich, added power now he could be the best all time, did we just jinx him with that best all time bit?, not as good as Justin M but assuredly better then Punto, can he close?, Joe Nathan made him what he is…not, let’s hope he finds some decent understated shades to wear out-side, probably bisexual, hasn’t won a post season game since CDH, why are you selling Chevy’s?, wonder if he’s thought about swinging from the right side?, and he should probably start stealing more. Other then that I’m really not sure what there is to say about Joe. Thanks for signing and before long the Twins will be his. Digg this! Share this on Facebook Post this to MySpace Tweet This!
Tonight the ‘Bliss had a tough time connecting offensively, while positives and negatives flew through defense. Twins come up with HOT hits against closer; win. With a final score of 12-5, the ‘bliss wavered at the plate. There was a few solid hits, but they didn’t amount to more than 4 runs scored in the bottom of the 3rd inning, and a run in the 7th on the final out. The Sitbo-Allstars had a very competent defense while seemingly dominating at the plate. After three straight wins, the ‘bliss may have gotten a little too comfortable in the field. A few miscues led to a couple of extra runs through out the game for the opposition. Regular short stop J.Ward was out due to a newly aquired employment opourtunity, but new SS Alex held his own, with near 15 years of ball-playing experience, a hit or two and providing a definite respite to J.Ward’s absence in the short field. Meanwhile, the Twinkies went deep twice off Padres’ closer Hoffman to come up with a 3-1 win on the left side of the country. Go Buscher and Harris… who knew? On yet another note, the ‘bliss sure know how to party! [...]

I was at the game when Boof was pitching in 2006 and we clinched the division. Tonight I caught what I hope is the final game for our boy Boof. He’s lost what ever it was that he once had. I know that tons has been written about Boof’s weight last summer and then how much weight he’s lost this winter. Right now his stuff just doesn’t have anything… Boof needs to either start coming back in on people or maybe he needs to work on a new pitch. Something need to change. The movement he’s got right now is weak at best. Let’s hope the Twins do something and do it soon. Digg this! Share this on Facebook Post this to MySpace Tweet This!
“Groins are a funny thing…” Gardenhire said of Baker’s lingering groin injury. Baker throws , but still feels the groin strain that was suffered May 3rd. On the River Bliss side of things, another tough night on the field. They were ten-runned at the end of the 5th. Some of the regulars were missing due to injury and final exams. The Bliss did what they could with a few subs that haven’t played ball for some time. They got a few on the board, but couldn’t keep up with Wold’s offense. Wold also held strong defensively, while the Bliss suffered a few defensive mis-cues leading to extra bases/runs. Next week: Double header: 6:15, 8:15 Digg this!
First things first the Sports Shot crew needs to give some serious props to Carlos Gomez. The first Twins cycle since Puck did it back in 1986. Not sure if that means we’ll be winning a World Series next year but nevertheless it was sweet to watch. We also need to give old number 61 some love. Taking a game into the ninth just doesn’t happen anymore. Screw Dye and his ridiculous dinger. The only issue I had with the game was Punto legging out the triple in the top of the ninth. The Twins were already up by the score of 13-0. Why did he have to dig in for third? Maybe he’s got some clause in his contract where if he hits X amount of triples he gets a bonus but I just don’t think he needed to do that when he did. It wouldn’t surprise me if the Chi-Sox tatoo him in the ribs tomorrow night! This game was delayed due to rain. Had a slow deliberate feel and its proposed 7:11pm start was still going well after 11:11pm. Livan got the complete game, didn’t get the shut-out thanks to freaking Dye’s home-run. Just as a side [...]

Gomez didn’t play on Saturday night after leaving the game early on Friday after being hit in the head by a ball. Gomez successfully stole second base but the throw from Pudge caught him in the left side of his helmet. Gomez lay on the infield for what seemed to be forever. After the game the Twins said he had a slight concussion. Then on Saturday night he wasn’t in the line-up, but supposedly he was available to play if needed… Gomez probably just needed a day to clear his head. Plus he’s a rookie, essentially, and taking a day off probably isn’t the worst thing he could do. I’d rather see Gomez take a few days off early in the season and be fresh at the end of the year then just plain run out of gas come late July. Really Gomez not making the line-up wasn’t nearly as troubling as Baker going down for the second time in two starts. It was Baker’s right groin again. This time you’ve got to hope they shut him down for at least a week if not to the 15 day DL. Baker came out like a man on fire or at [...]
