What a time to be a Minnesota sports fan. Well, at least a Minnesota hockey fan. Well after tonight’s Gopher loss to Michigan Tech, it’s a good time to be a Minnesota Wild fan. The wild are still clinging to the top spot in the NHL after playing with nearly 10 rookies and having a regular rotation into the training room. Latendresse and Zidlicky have been out a majority of the season with Clutterbuck and Setoguchi missing recent games. Perhaps the most noteworthy injury is Josh Harding’s “upper body” issue resulting from an errant elbow from a fellow Wild member. This has been noteworthy because, with Backstrom already sidelined, the Wild called up Matt Hacket from the Houston Aeros of the AHL. He made his NHL debut after Harding went down in the first minute of the game on December 6th. His first start came the next game on December 8th. He’s handled himself surprisingly well in his first two appearances notching a win in both games. It seems like finally one Minnesota team has things going right for them (knock on wood). Hopefully the Gophs can come back tomorrow night to split the series with Tech. It’s also worth [...]

I, like many Twins fans, did a double take when reading the WCCO headline about Joe signing for 10 years, but it sounds a little premature. From what I’ve read, a deal may be in place with details being ironed out as we speak. Though, I am of the school of thought that the Twins can’t afford not to sign Mauer. It’s a question not of “if,” but “when.” Digg this!
Well, I ventured out into the cold and snowy to try out my skiing legs. I finally ran out of excuses not to go. Today was a beautiful, sunny day with temperatures in the low 30s. Perfect for the fair-weather skier that I’ve turned into the last few years. Needless to say, Como was PACKED! Mostly little kids playing on the “down hill area” and on the sledding hills though. There were a handful of Nordic skiers out there too. The snow was pretty good. I was well packed and I only saw a few spots of grass poking through. Seems like the golf cart paths are pretty well covered though. I was skating, but the classic tracks did look pretty good. Of course, they were washed out at the bottom of the hills, and on some steep uphills. My only beef was that a small group of skiers gathered in the middle of the trail to go over some technique tips. There were plenty of areas that the trail was plenty wide to accommodate them, or they could have picked on side or the other instead of the middle of the trail. Oh well, I only ran into them [...]

They opened the flood gates. The Tigers got their first run in 25 innings Monday night. At some point when it was 10-5, I it was think Bert that said something about the Tigers not scoring for 25 innings, and here they have 5 runs, but still are down by 5. But they came back and won it after a 7 run 8th. Dang. I was excited to see Delmon Young’s arm a few times today. It was close on that one that flipped up on Mauer. It was a pretty fun game to watch still, even though the Twins lost. Lots of hitting, and scoring for both teams. Back and forth, it stayed pretty close and took it to the last inning. Digg this!
