Capitals v Penguins

02/07/2010
By Drakesax

I only started watching this game in the second period.  Sort of suffering through a cold of my own.  I am so glad that I remembered this game was on.  There are tons of Minnesota ties playing in this game most notably Alex Gologoski.  This is hockey and this is why the NHL will become popular again.  This is back and forth non-stop action.  As soon as one team gains control of the puck they are sprinting at the opposing offensive zone.  Not a lot of feeling out or set-up in the neutral zones.  This is just grip it and rip it.  Ovechkin’s goals have been unreal, his third (shortly after taking a shot to the ribs that has defenitly slowed him) was right off the draw and it was truly sniped in the top shelf.  Fleury had no chance to even see the puck there was so much traffic in front of him.

Washington Capitals versus the Pittsburgh Penguins

Its going to overtime.  4 on 4 hockey is crazy-fun.  There is so much space, these teams are so freaking fast and so loaded with talent.  Man now the Caps are on a 4-3 power play with 2:20 to play with 30 more seconds on the game then the power-play.  Ovechkin fires a shot and Knuble scores the game winner.  Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  This was a playoff game in February!  14 in a row!!! Knuble from the door-step pokes it past Fleury.  Damn I was just watching and I’m tired.

The Wild can play that kind of hockey.  Owen Nolen is past his prime but he’s that kind of gritty Ovechkin type of player.  Johnnson plays as good if not a better offensive-defense-men then anyone playing in todays game.  What we are missing is the depth at wing that both of these teams have.  Our goalie is more seasoned and techincally more proficient then either of the two keepers in the game today.  Again these two teams have bigger more athletic defensmen which makes for more room in front of their keepers.  I think that the Wild has a lot to build on/with right now.  I know that it feels like we’ve got no way to move up our talent level but the Wild are still young and they only need to add a few pieces.  If we can find a diamond in the rough via the draft I think we can contend in the West.  I’m not sure anyone can contend with Washington or Pittsburgh right now.  These two teams are amazing, the only thing that will hurt them is the amount of games their teams will be playing and the fatigue factor.  Now onto watching the Magic v Celtics.
